Crime rates in Argentina are high, and you should always be aware that muggings and robberies can occur in tourist areas.
In Argentina, Buenos Aires province has the highest crime rate in the country.
Travelers are advised to be especially cautious in touristy areas such as the Presidential Palace (CASA ROSADA), the Teatro Colon, RECOLETA (where Eva Perón’s tomb is located), SAN TELMO (where the weekend flea market is held), and the port of LA BOCA (the birthplace of the tango), as loss, theft, and robbery are common.
In the rest of the country, crime is relatively low, but travelers are advised to be cautious in touristy areas such as Iguazú, Calafate, and Bariloche, where theft of electronics and cars is common. In recent years, credit cards have been cloned in Iguazu, and in areas with rugged terrain such as Calafate, Bariloche, and Ushuaia, traveling unaccompanied can lead to distress, so we recommend that you take a professional guide to a safe place.
