3. Transportation
Traffic conditions in Jordan are poor, with a very weak public transport system and most people owning their own cars.
Taxis are the most common form of local public transport for Jordanians.
City buses are very inconvenient for foreigners, as little information is available about bus routes and schedules until you board.
Routes are only briefly written on the outside of the vehicle in Arabic, making it difficult for foreigners to navigate. The fare is 0.5 Jordanian dinars.
However, there is a mobile app called Bus Amman that allows you to check your bus card balance, find bus stops, find bus routes, and locate buses.
When travelling from the airport to the city, you should only use airport taxis or buses.
The airport taxi rank is located right in front of the arrivals hall. Regular taxis, Uber, and Careem are not available.
Shuttle buses from the airport into Amman city centre depart every 30 minutes from 6:30am to 6:00pm and every 60 minutes from 6:00pm to 6:00am. The fare is 4 Jordanian dinars and the buses are yellow with Sariyah written on the livery and terminate at the North Bus Station in downtown Amman.
JETT buses, Jordan’s highway tourist buses, have a well-developed infrastructure
Major tourist destinations such as Jerash, the Dead Sea, Aqaba, Madaba, Mount Nebo, Wadi Rum, and Petra can be reached for between 10 and 30 Jordanian dinars.
4. Safety
Despite the turbulent situation in the Middle East, Jordan has a good security record, with a low rate of terrorism compared to neighbouring Arab countries.
In general, walking alone on city streets or taking a taxi rarely results in an incident. However, it is not advisable for women to take taxis alone late at night, or to walk alone in seedy areas or low-income neighbourhoods.
There are also cases of pickpocketing, theft, and mugging, such as when a motorbike or car approaches you while you are waiting for public transport or a taxi and snatches your bag.

General emergency numbers: 911/112
5. Climate
The weather in Amman is mild all year round.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times to travel as the weather is warm and pleasant.
In summer (June to August), the weather can be very hot, so it’s a good idea to be prepared for the sun and heat.

7. Travel precautions
Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels and popular restaurants, but it is advisable not to leave them behind and to pay the bill yourself, as some restaurants sometimes counterfeit tourists’ credit cards.
The main language is Arabic, but about 50 per cent of the population speaks English. It is therefore widely spoken throughout the city.
8. Etiquette & Service Tip
You must eat with your right hand, and it is considered polite to wait until the food has cooled down rather than blowing on it when it is hot.
Jordanians do not invite people into their homes unless they are very close to them.
They will usually offer you a drink (“tea” and “Arabic coffee”; in summer, water is also available), and you can decline, but it is polite to order one of the many choices available.
As an Islamic country, it has a conservative culture. Do not wear tight or revealing clothing or take photographs without permission.
Tip
It is customary to tip around 5-10% if the service charge is not automatically added to the bill.
