Honduras does not have a metro, taxis are unmetered and you will need to negotiate the fare on board, and buses are in poor condition and should be avoided if possible.

Honduras has a poor security record. Crime, including robbery, theft and murder, is common and you are advised to be aware of your surroundings and keep valuables on your person when travelling. There is also a risk of crime in cities and tourist areas, particularly in the northern cities of Olancho, Colon and Gracias a Dios, due to a lack of police presence. You should also be aware that there may still be unexplored landmines near the border between Honduras and Nicaragua.

Tropical diseases such as dengue fever, Zika virus, yellow fever, and malaria can occur in Honduras, so vaccinations are recommended before travelling.
Honduras has high altitudes above 1,800 meters. The weather in the highlands varies depending on the altitude, but generally has cooler temperatures and more varied weather. We recommend that you bring warm clothes and cold weather gear when visiting the highlands.
Hondurans are friendly and sociable, but can sometimes appear aggressive; therefore, it is advisable to be polite and courteous when interacting with them.
